“1) Write and direct original screenplays,
2) make them with the most modern technology available, and
3) self-finance them.”
… Francis Ford Coppola interview HERE.
An insightful little interview from an erratic but true great, with the exception of the statement “Who said art has to cost money? And therefore, who says artists have to make money?” which – while I understand the sentiment that you shouldn’t ideally let money dictate or drive your art – is hugely disappointing, especially coming from the director of Jack.
Bloody love THIS.
… Free Willy meets Moby Dick? … might need more work.
Anyways, he’s uber untrendy and the tracks err on the side of the synth, but there’s no questioning the generosity and sentiment of tiny wee man Moby offering free music to indie filmmakers.

So, looks like once I’ve got a little paid work (woop!) out of the way I’m gonna have to bite the bullet and get on with everything that’s left myself. I’ve run out of options and people to tap up!
Despite my best efforts I’ve met with a bit of a wall of indifference lately, which isn’t surprising given that money is no longer something I can offer, but there’s still a lot of work to be done. I’ve never done a sound mix before, so it’ll be a steep learning curve, and it’s bound to be a little ropey, but needs must. The visual fx stuff isn’t so bad, I know I can do that, but it’ll slow things up immeasurably given the rest of the stuff I’ve got on.
Going to be a busy couple of months. Again! … The novelty wore off some time ago now, I simply want this out the way now (in the nicest possible sense).
“Being creative involves disciplines and rigour … you can’t be creative in the abstract, to be creative you have to do something. Creativity is the process of having original ideas that have value. It’s a process, not an event. It’s a process you can learn and you can understand. It’s about originality, and fresh thinking – I don’t mean it has to be original to the whole world, but it has to be at least original to you, something that you’ve thought of or developed for the first time. And it’s about value, creativity is about coming up with things that are worthwhile … There isn’t a contradiction or an antipathy between being creative and being rigorous, on the contrary.”
Rule *103: Always remember to remove the Strimmer before filming.
And this is just to show it’s not all doom and gloom!
