RIP Tony Scott

Sad news.
‘Last Boy Scout’ is one of the most underrated, funniest and most cynical buddy movies made, and a true guilty pleasure.

… by John Williams.

Brilliantly done.

Culture, sophistication, genius

The Long Good Friday had a HUGE impact on me as a kid, and I can remember taping it on a top loading BetaMax video and watching it over and over until the tape turned to static ribbon. I taped it for the violence, the swearing and the bare knockers, but i watched it again, and again, and again for the music, the energy, the dialogue, the cast. The tone is incredible and makes a mockery of all the Nick Love and Guy Ritchie bullshit it accidentally inspired, but mostly it’s all about Bob Hoskins as Harold Shand. He was never better, and his introduction, his speeches, his explosion into violence and that final scene – in my view the greatest ever final sequence – are immense.

Plus he gets a’bear’ bating shower sequence, something for everyone.

Hearing that Hoskins has now retired from acting due to ill health, it’s worth having another shufty

Harold Shand intro

Making of

Greatest ever film ending
