UKFC >>> BFI

The UK Film Council hands over the reins

I have to say, despite my inital anger at the squishing of the Film Council, the clarity of the BFI hosted funding application is a thing to behold … nowt fancy, just one place to register and apply, as opposed to numerous ever-so-cleverly titled subdivisions of the same body of funding, allocated according to your age, sex, filming format and/or number of your working limbs and what colour they are. I’m sure the same discriminations apply, but at least they’re not shouting about it.

Promising.

Scraping the barrel.

For want of being able to share the film itself, here’s a makeweight – a promo I directed and animated for Coldcut‘s lead track from Sound Mirrors 5 years ago … FIVE years ago … five YEEEARSSS ago!

There’s been directors born and won Oscars within that timeframe. Probably.

It came to mind as it was recently screened at the BFI and me and my mate Dom got a shout out from Adam Buxton and a little round of applause, which can never come too late, even when you have to wait FIVE FUCKING YEARS.

… incidentally, the plates were shot at the actual site of the Sound Mirrors in Dungeness – just a short way up the road from where I shot The Gift. Have a read about them, they’re intriguing devices.

… also, the promos less than six minutes long, the black void at the end is unintentional.
